About Morris Dees

Morris Dees is a champion of justice, whose work has resulted in the building of the Civil Rights Memorial, in lawsuits that bankrupted the Ku Klux Klan, in increased awareness of radical militias, and in the imprisonment of perpetrators of hate crimes. He serves as chief trial counsel for the Southern Poverty Law Center, which specializes in lawsuits involving civil rights violations and racially-motivated crimes. Over the years, he has sued and won judgments against the KKK, the Skinheads, the Aryan Nation, and many other hate groups. A graduate of the University of Alabama Law School, he is the recipient of the National Education Association’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Award.
