About John Dominic Crossan

John Dominic Crossan is Professor Emeritus of Religious Studies at DePaul University in Chicago. He is a co-founder of the Jesus Seminar and the former chair of the Historical Jesus Section of the Society of Biblical Literature. He holds a Doctor of Divinity from Maynooth College in Ireland, and he has studied biblical languages at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and archaeology at the Ecole Biblique in Jordanian East Jerusalem. The author of twenty books on the historical Jesus, his newest book, God and Empire: Jesus Against Rome Then and Now, draws parallels between first century Rome and twenty-first century America.
