About John DeGraaf
John DeGraaf is an environmentalist, co-author of the book Affluenza, and producer of the PBS series of the same name. He has been a documentary filmmaker for 25 years and is the recipient of nearly 100 regional, national, and international awards for his filmmaking. He describes affluenza as a painful, contagious, socially-transmitted condition of overload, debt, anxiety, and waste that results from the dogged pursuit of more. Using the metaphor of an illness, he explores the damage done to our health, families, communities, and environment by the obsessive quest for material goods.
