About Peter Gomes
Peter Gomes is Plummer Professor of Christian Morals at Harvard University and minister of the University’s Memorial Church. His roots in the American Baptist Church, combined with his love of Anglican liturgy, have given him a populist voice and a preaching style described as a mixture of grandiloquent and scampish. Before coming to Harvard, he was Director of Freshman Studies at Tuskegee Institute. His New York Times bestseller, The Good Book: Reading the Bible with Mind and Heart, explores such controversial themes as racism, sexism, and homophobia and has become a source-book for sermon-writing and study groups across the country. His presentation will explore the essential measures of a meaningful, ethical life and how to contribute to a good society.
