About Joe Dowling
Joe Dowling is the artistic director of the Guthrie Theater. Before coming to Minneapolis in 1995, he was the artistic director for Ireland’s Abbey Theatre. He served as managing and artistic director of Dublin’s oldest commercial theater, the Gaiety Theater, and he founded the Gaiety School of Acting, which is considered by many to be Ireland’s premier drama school. His directing credits at the Guthrie Theater include, among others, The Playboy of the Western World, The Importance of Being Earnest, All My Sons, and Pride and Prejudice. His vision for a new Guthrie on the Mississippi River has become a reality, and construction is now underway.
