About David Breashears

David Breashears is a climber, author, and Emmy Award-winning cinematographer, who has seen firsthand the impact of adventure travel on the environment. He has helped in removing the debris left behind by expeditions on Mt. Everest, and he has established a fund to assist the families of Sherpa guides who were lost or injured while working on the mountain. In 1985, he was the first American to reach Mt. Everest’s summit for the second time. In 1996, he and his crew recorded the first IMAX images from the top of the world; it was during this expedition that nine of the climbers died. In his Forum presentation, he will focus on environmental ethics and our responsibility to the natural places that we use and explore.
