About James Comer
James Comer is a psychiatrist, social scientist, activist, and educator. He is a professor of child psychiatry at Yale University’s Child Study Center and the director of the School Development Program at Yale. Recognized as a key leader of the movement to reform troubled urban schools, he has gained national prominence for his success in improving the academic performance of high-risk children in the New Haven public school system. In 1990, he was awarded $15 million by the Rockefeller Foundation to support the widespread adoption of his pioneering methods for educating at-risk students.
