William J. Blair, Jr., is president of The Nature Conservancy, which was founded in the United States in 1951 to conserve and protect the lands and waters on which all life depends. Under his leadership, The Nature Conservancy has quadrupled its membership to 300,000, doubled its staff to 600 in offices in 30 states, raised $300,000,000 in private funds, and brought 1,000,000 acres under its protection. Before coming to The Nature Conservancy, Mr. Blair was the Paris bureau chief for Newsweek and served as Assistant Secretary of Public Affairs in the State Department.
