Olara Otunnu is an international statesman who is widely acclaimed for his diplomatic and negotiating skills. From 1980 to 1985, he was Uganda’s permanent representative to the United Nations, serving as president of the Security Council and chairman of the U. N. Commission on Human Rights. While serving as Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, he played a key role in the Uganda Peace Talks. He is currently president of the International Peace Academy, which conducts programs in peacekeeping and the settlement of international conflicts.
