He is co-author with Charles Alan Wright of Federal Practice and Procedure, considered an essential reference for judges and lawyers. A leading scholar in the areas of civil litigation, copyright, unfair competition, and privacy, he has written numerous articles and books, including The Assault on Privacy: Computers, Data Banks, and Dossiers, one of the first books warning of the threat to privacy posed by modern information technology.
