About Gabrielle Kirk McDonald

Gabrielle Kirk McDonald is president of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, which is the first world court since the Nuremberg and Tokyo tribunals after World War II to hear cases involving war crimes. She was a judge in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas from 1979 to 1988. After resigning from this position, she joined a private law firm and taught at St. Mary’s University and the University of Texas. She has also held the position of Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law at Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, she is a graduate of Howard University Law School.
