About Leon Sullivan

Leon Sullivan is the pastor of Zion Baptist Church in Philadelphia, a congregation that has grown from 600 members in 1950 to 6,000 today. He is the founder of the Opportunities Industrialization Center, an employment training and re-training center which has helped more than 600,000 men and women since its founding in 1964, and the Progress Nonprofit Charitable Trust, a community development corporation focusing on the physical redevelopment of inner cities. In 1983, he was awarded United Way’s Alexis de Tocqueville Society Award in recognition of his outstanding voluntary service to the nation.
