About Mira Nair
Mira Nair is an acclaimed producer, director, and writer of documentary and feature films. Born in India and educated at Harvard, she began her film career as an actor, then turned to directing award-winning documentaries, including So Far from India and India Cabaret, which capture the stories of people living on the margins of society. Her first feature film, Salaam Bombay, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. Subsequent feature films include Mississippi Masala with Denzel Washington; Vanity Fair with Reese Witherspoon and Bob Hoskins; and Monsoon Wedding, a Golden Globe nominee. Her film company, Mirabai Films, established an annual filmmaker’s laboratory to support screenwriters and directors in East Africa and South Asia.
