About Kofi Annan

Kofi Annan served as the seventh secretary-general of the United Nations for nearly a decade. In 2001, he and the UN were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace. Since leaving the UN, he has focused on developing policies that address the needs of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable, particularly in Africa, and to mediating and resolving conflict around the globe. In 2007, he established the Kofi Annan Foundation to promote better governance and to develop the capacities of peoples and countries to achieve a more secure world. He was born in Kumasi, Ghana, and is a graduate of Macalester College.
