About Jill Conway

Jill Conway is an author, scholar, and professor of history, education, and women’s studies. Born in New South Wales, Australia, she received a B. A. from the University of Sydney and a Ph.D. from Harvard University. She was president of Smith College from 1975 to 1985. Since 1985, she has been a visiting scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is the author of Modern Feminism: An Intellectual History; The Female Experience in Eighteenth- and Nineteenth-Century America; and Utopian Dream or Dystopian Nightmare? Nineteenth-Century Feminist Ideas about Equality.
